Brand New Colony - The Postal Service

When I listen to Give Up I’m overwhelmed with this bittersweet feeling because, even though this is one of the best albums I ever heard in my life, I know there will probably never be a second album by The Postal Service and that deeply saddens me. Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello had such an amazing thing going on, the music they made was magic and still echoes on through the pop culture psyche nearly a decade later. This album is a masterfully layered and divine blend of electronic and pop alternative. There are even moments on the album where they have these 8-bit sounding effects that take me back to my childhood, when I used to spend hours playing Super Mario and MegaMan on the Super Nintendo tirelessly trying to reach the next level and once I did I had this beautiful feeling of accomplishment. It was the first time in my life where I felt like I was accomplishing something. Sure it was just a few pixels on tiny screen, but as a kid that meant the world to me. I felt like I could conquer anything that life throws at me. It’s one of my finest childhood memories and the fact that an album could bring all these memories rushing in along with lyrics I can currently relate to is by far one of the best musical experiences. It saddens me that there will probably never be the coveted second The Postal Service album, however this one is so damn good I would never grow tired of it and will always hold a place in my heart forever and ever.
